The Sights When folks think of San Diego, they usually think water. And we certainly have plenty of it—such as the San Diego waterfront, and beach communities like La Jolla and Ocean Beach. But one of the greatest things about San Diego is that you're usually within an hour or so of the ocean, mountains, and deserts. Plus there's all the world famous attractions, like the San Diego Zoo or Wild Animal Park, Sea World, Old Town, Stephen Birch Aquarium and Museum, Hotel Del Coronado, Legoland and Balboa Park. If you're a history buff, there's plenty of that, too. Try the San Diego Historical Society for more info. Or take a short trip south of the border to Tijuana.
Arts & Entertainment San Diego has a vibrant arts and entertainment community. Here's a performing arts schedule. And a bonus $$ saving tip: ARTS TIX downtown sells day-of, half-price tickets to entertainment events in San Diego. We recommend two acclaimed programs, which are both Christian-based: Lamb's Players Theatre, and the hilarious comedy Triple Espresso. Check out the exciting downtown area called the Gaslamp Quarter, which holds some of our favorite places to eat.
Shopping San Diego has one of finest malls, Fashion Valley. If you go downtown or to the Gaslamp Quarter, make sure to check out Horton Plaza, a huge mall with very unique architecture.
Dining The city guides above have excellent listings (and some with reviews) of San Diego restaurants. Check out this San Diego Restaurant's Guide, divided by type of food (with printable coupons for some places). The Gaslamp Quarter features some of the finest restaurants. And after dinner there, take a horse-drawn carriage tour of the Gaslamp or seaport area. Try great restaurants like P.F. Chang's and the Cheesecake Factory. For a special night out, try a dinner cruise on San Diego bay.
